Casa del Puente

Paseo de los Tristes  (Granada)

How does one begin to describe this house?  In just about the most photographed location in Granada, in el Paseo de los Tristes at the foot of the Albaicin and with views of the Alhambra; this 18th century house spread over 600m2 on three floors and a roof tower, is a gem.

The house has entry from the Paseo and also from a small square to the rear of the building. The walls to the front and sides are adorned with trompe l’oeil and the whole house is redolent of Granada’s rich past.  One enters the house through large wooden doors into a small courtyard inlaid with stones in the form of Granada’s emblem, the pomegranate and another door leads from here into the house.  The first thing you find is a courtyard open to the sky and off this  are several rooms of varying sizes, including a large wooden-beamed reception room.  On the first floor is the living area with drawing rooms, sitting rooms, dining rooms and a kitchen.  On the second floor are the sleeping quarters, with bedrooms and bathrooms.  There is access to the tower room from here and from the tower room to the roof terrace which is partly covered and gives views to the Albaicin and across to the Alhambra.

The views from the front of the house are to the Paseo de los Tristes and across to the Realejo, another historic part of Granada.  The house is liveable now but would benefit from modernisation and would make a wonderful characterful hotel or a really spacious and prestigious family home.  The situation and history attached to this house make it a very rare buy indeed.

I am restricted to twelve photographs on this website but have many more for anyone interested in receiving them
