Probably the best renovation I have seen in the valley. Lots of the original features left from the original and yet a truly functional house that has been lived in by the present owners for many years, until they have it working perfectly.
In true Moorish style, from the street there is an almost blank façade except for the original wooden door. Passing through this you are in a small vestibule and then through French windows to a small, cobbled internal courtyard, open to the sky. From there you pass into the main part of the house; first a study, then on into the salon. To the left there is a small passageway with a W.C. and to the front the dining room and doors leading to a fully fitted kitchen. Up a couple of steps to the right there is the salon, with wooden floors and a wood-burning stove. Large glass doors take you into the terracotta tiled garden, where there is a plunge pool surrounded with flower beds with a host of Mediterranean flowers and climbing plants. And a shed for the gentleman of the house. The garden is completely private and easy to maintain, and it has a door in the wall leading to another street.
On the first floor are three bedrooms and three bathrooms, two en-suite, including the master bedroom. The master bedroom overlooks the garden from a Juliet balcony and one of the other bedrooms has its own very private terrace. There is a small salon on this floor, where one can read or just be alone.
On the second floor is the fourth bedroom and a utility room and yet more outside space in the form of another patio.
There is a mass of storage space throughout the house, a rarity in village houses.
One of the few houses which I would readily move into myself if I were looking for a family house with charm and functionality or a house for privacy but with space and enough to invite family or friends.
Melegis is the village where, in years gone by, the nobility from Granada would come to escape the heat of the city in August and enjoy the gentle breeze which blows through the valley in summer, courtesy of the surrounding hills and mountains There are many old houses remaining from this period. The village has wider than average streets, a bakers, a bank, and the most popular restaurant in the valley with a lovely terrace with views down to the lake. From the house you can be in the countryside in a couple of minutes.
