A restored mill with centuries of history, sitting on the very edge of the village of Melegis with stunning views across the Lecrin Valley. Arches and pillars of the original building have been retained and incorporated into the sensitive restoration overseen by the current owner around twenty years ago. The mill is in very good condition throughout with central heating, double glazing, terracotta tiling and a good standard of woodworking.
You enter through an ancient door into a cobbled forecourt full of plants and shrubs. To the left is a breakfast patio for the downstairs bedroom and to the front is the main entrance. To the right as you enter the building is the very large kitchen with stone sinks and a four-metre-long central island with a stone surface and plenty of drawers underneath. There are several large double-glazed windows with views across the valley to the hills beyond. Next to the kitchen is the dining area and from there you pass into the garden. This is paved and has many types of plants and cacti, a good-sized pool with privacy.
Adjoining the kitchen is a large salon with high ceilings incorporating an ancient arch, again with access to the garden.
From here you pass along a long passageway with a WC to the right serving the ground floor and on to a double bedroom with an en-suite bathroom with a fantastic walk-in shower. There is access from here to a small patio where you can breakfast amongst the bougainvillea and jasmine.
Up a flight of stairs you arrive on the first floor where here are a further two large en-suite bedrooms and a long, light and airy yoga room.
One of these bedrooms is in fact a suite, with a sitting room, a walk-in dressing room and a large bathroom with shower and bathtub. The bathroom in the other bedroom has a bath and a characterful terracotta finish to the bathroom furniture.
The large and long yoga room has windows overlooking the valley and access to a decking terrace with even more fantastic views to the garden and the valley.
There is access, by means of outside steps, to what I would describe as a crow’s-nest which gives 360 degree views of the village and countryside.
It is difficult to give justice to the way both modern and ancient architectural influences have been utilised in the renovation. Old stonework and modern glass give the impression of days gone by but the whole interior is flooded with light.
A once in a lifetime opportunity to purchase a truly original building, the best restoration of an ancient mill in the whole of the valley.
